Imagine never having to lose a grocery bag or sprain your back in the name of trunk opening again. Well, Ford has taken that small fantasy and made it a reality with the all-new motion-sensing power liftgate. First available in the next-generation Ford Escape, the technology is a great example of the automaker's dedication to improving convenience and making the everyday lives of new Ford drivers, a bit easier.
While some automakers have branched out from traditional "key-in-hole" operating systems in favor of remote ones, Ford is the first to take out any form of the key altogether...at least when it comes to unloading cargo. Using two sensors, the system detects when an Escape owner performs a small kicking motion under the vehicle's rear bumper and then proceeds to open or close the liftgate. In order to avoid miscellaneous objects from rolling under the vehicle and opening it up at an inopportune time, Ford designers have created the system to detect only a human's calf.
Now, we know what you may be thinking. Ford drivers don't all come in the same height and there's nothing more annoying than bumping your head on a liftgate that is far too low. Thankfully, Ford has this potential faux pas covered. Upon purchasing a Ford Escape, owners will have the ability to program the liftgate to open to a convenient, size-appropriate height.
This technology won't be available until sometime next year, however Plantation Ford invites you to test drive a current Ford Escape model now at 707 North State Road 7 Plantation, FL 33317. If you'd prefer to schedule a time in advance, feel free to contact us online.
