Approximately 50- to 75-percent of our bodies are made up of water. Ever stop to think about what would happen if water suddenly wasn't available? Ford did. And the thought of our earth lacking this clean, clear liquid did not sit well with the eco-conscious automaker. That's why Ford has made it a company goal to conserve this precious resource by all means possible.
In particular, Ford officials have announced that by mid-decade they plan to reduce the amount of water it takes to manufacture a new Ford vehicle by 30-percent. Accomplishing this goal is crucial to water conservation efforts considering that the auto industry gulps up a fair share of our society's H2O supply. Specifically, some officials have placed the consumption rate to be around 40,000-gallons of water per vehicle.
Despite these daunting facts, however, Ford has already made impressive moves towards the reduction of water usage. Not a surprise considering we've already seen its green thumb at work with an EV variant of the beloved Ford Focus and the Ford Fusion Hybrid. Adding water reduction to CO2 reduction, Ford will take on better practices around the manufacturing plant. For example, instead of using water to lubricate machines, the automaker will make use of atomized oil. Ford has also begun using biological membrane reactors and wastewater treatment systems which will recycle upwards of 65-percent of water.
