Most people know Ford as a leading, American-born automaker. But we could also refer to the company as an ever-flowing fountain of technology and innovation. Sound a bit dramatic? Perhaps. Plantation Ford, however, has good reason to say this. In the past few months alone, the Blue Oval has pumped out consumer-friendly new hybrid models, pioneered elliptical acoustic mirror technology to lower in-vehicle noise and, oh yea, was dubbed "Most Innovative Automaker" by AutoTrader.com.

Those who follow our favorite automaker closely know that Ford has been scheming to increase its world-wide reach. In 2011, the automaker stretched its arms to Russia where it vamped up production of the Ford Explorer and Ford Transit Van. Taking its global goals in to 2012, Ford recently rolled out a new compact sport-utility vehicle in India and with it, a few brand firsts as well.

As automotive devotees we've seen some pretty remarkable strategies put forth in the name of environmental sustainability. None, however, as unique as the latest Ford green initiative. In addition to pumping out fuel-efficient models such as the Ford Focus, the automaker will cross industry boundaries and promote eco-friendly practices within an entirely new sector: the world of film.

Imagine never having to lose a grocery bag or sprain your back in the name of trunk opening again. Well, Ford has taken that small fantasy and made it a reality with the all-new motion-sensing power liftgate. First available in the next-generation Ford Escape, the technology is a great example of the automaker's dedication to improving convenience and making the everyday lives of new Ford drivers, a bit easier.

Many water-consumers (aka humans) are ditching the plastic bottle in favor of more eco-friendly options such as Kleen Kanteens or Nalgenes. Yet despite the fact that these options are greener and cheaper, not all have made the switch. We know this because it's almost impossible to go a day without seeing a plastic water bottle tossed onto the street or left behind at the office. It seems these little landfill dwellers just won't disappear. Thankfully, Ford has found a home for them that would make Mother Earth proud.

Ford production remains steady within U.S. borders, however such models as the Ford Explorer and the Ford Transit Van will soon be natives of Russia as well. According to US-Russia Ford CEO Ted Cannis, "demand remains strong"¹ there for these vehicles and other new Ford models. In addition to production of the Explorer and Transit, the automaker is set to construct a Russian plant that will crank out 180,000 to 200,000 engines per year and will be responsible for distributing all Ford parts.

Pickup truck lovers in the Ft Lauderdale area will be happy to hear that the 2011 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab 4x4 mixes the best of the old with an impressive amount of new. The country's best-selling vehicle has seen some pretty solid highs in the past but the 2011 model comes with added features and some cool new gadgets.
