5 of the Best Fishing Spots in Driving Distance of Plantation, FL

Florida is the fishing capital of the world, and Plantation, FL, is close to some of the best fishing spots in the state. Load your fishing tackle in a Ford Explorer, Bronco, or Ranger, and get ready to hook that big one.

1. Plantation Heritage Park Pond

A great place to fish right here in Plantation is from the bank of the scenic pond in Plantation Heritage Park at 1100 South Fig Tree Lane. The pond is full of bass, bluegill, and sunfish, and near the three fish feeders are the best spots to drop your hook. The pond is stocked annually with channel catfish, and anglers regularly boast 12.5-pound catches. Although the park rents watercraft, boat fishing is not permitted.

2. Markham Park Canals

Markham Park at 16001 West State Road 84 in Sunrise, about 10.5 miles away, offers incredible fishing opportunities. The park’s canals run along the edge of the Everglades, home to various fish species. Largemouth bass is reeled in regularly, but Markham Park’s primary targets are the exotic peacock and the aggressive snakehead bass that can reach up to ten pounds in these waters.

Both species are hard fighters, and South Florida is the only place in the United States where you can catch peacock bass. The park has two boat ramps on the New River Canal, offering easy access for an exciting fishing expedition on the water.

3. Fisher Family Pier

The newly revamped 900-foot Fisher Family Pier at 222 North Pampano Beach Boulevard is just a short 13-mile drive away in Pampano Beach and ideal for saltwater fishing in the Atlantic Ocean. The pier has everything you need for an excellent day of napper, mackerel, snook, and cobia fishing, from large shade covers to protect you from the hot Florida sun to a well-stocked bait shop.

4. The Everglades

Head 22 miles down the road to the Everglades Holiday Park at 21940 Griffin Road in Fort Lauderdale to wet your hook at one of the world’s top attractions and prime fishing destinations. Anglers come from all over the planet to catch largemouth and peacock bass in the Everglades’ unspoiled winding canals and grassy marshes.

The park offers fantastic pontoon boat charters with knowledgeable guides who will show you where these predatory fish bite best.

5. Lake Ida

Lake Ida, a hot spot for freshwater game fishing, is a bit further afield but well worth the 32-mile drive to hook an array of species, including largemouth bass, clown knife fish, panfish, bluegill, spotted tilapia, oscars, pickerel, carp and the biggest peacock bass in the area.

Lake Ida is part of the E-4 Canal System with multiple access points for shore fishing and boat ramps in Lake Ida West Park at 1455 Lake Ida Road and Lake Ida East Park at 950 N.W. 9th Street in Delray Beach.

Whether you fish from the shore or a boat, the region offers endless days of action-packed fishing all year round. While planning your next fishing expedition, stop at Plantation Ford today and check out the new range of tough SUVs and trucks.
